So you’ve planned your trip to Australia, saved up the cash, booked flights and accommodation and organised your visa. All that’s left to do is find work and have the perfect balance between spending money and making money.

As a backpacker there are loads of opportunities for work, especially in Manly – from bar jobs to labouring. If you’re planning on traveling around, it’s easier to find work once you are somewhere you want to stay, as jobs come and go pretty quickly amongst the backpacking community.

But, before you start applying there a few things you need to do first.

1) Australian Address – All of the things below require you to have an Australian address, however, as a backpacker this can be a little challenging. If you’re staying with us, at Manly Backpackers, we are more than happy for you to put down our address. When your post arrives, the team on reception will let you know.

2) Tax File Number (TFB) – If you want to work anywhere in Australia you will have to have one of these. It’s easy to get and you can apply online. Find out more and apply here.

3) Australian Bank Account – If you want to get paid you’d better set one of these up. Walk into any of the big banks and ask to set up an account and they will be more than happy to help you out. Just be sure to ask about any extra fees and bank charges so you don’t get any surprises!

Finding the work is all about knowing where to look, below are a few useful starting points.

www.gumtree.com.au – This website is the backpacker’s friend when for pretty much everything, from finding jobs, to orgnaising transport up the coast and not to mention, buying and selling anything and everything you could possibly need.

www.indeed.com.au – This is a more formal jobs website, but you do get short term, contract work come up.

Manly Backpackers Reception – When you check in, make sure you let the team know that you’re looking for work. We regularly get requests for backpackers so if we know you’re looking we will be sure to put you forward.
